Just wanted to stop in and say hello! As a neighbor of Sergeant Mike Butler, our family has the pleasure of seeing both Mike and Kobi on a daily basis. What a great and well behaved dog!(I'm referring to Kobi!) In fact if it weren't for the signs on the gate, one would never know that a dog lived at their home. Kudos to the training methods. Our young Pekinese (Chloe) could stand a lesson or two herself! Our family feels safer knowing that Mike and Kobi are watching out for our safety as well as the saftey of the citizens of Scramento County!

I did not know Joe, but know of his reputation of being a great cop. All I hear is good things about him. Kevin, Eric and I went to the academy together (96-SBRA-1) and worked together. Eric and I were inseperable in the academy (he was 19 and I was 26...wow....such a long time ago). Kevin had the greatest parties at his house and he would always be the first to take a dare (hahahah). I will truly miss his smile. Eric will pull through, I know it. To the families: I am very sorry for your loss and pray for you daily; for your comfort and peace. Eric, I have the honor of seeing you now, but I will talk with you soon! I thank all three of you for doing your job that day.

Rich, This is Jeff DiMarco, Jean's husband and 2 time cruise mate of yours. I am very sorry to hear what has happened to your son and I will include Eric in yet another prayer chain from our church too. I have specialized in physical rehabilitation nursing and therapies for 20 years and if there is anything that I can do, please let me know. After reading your emails, my nurse radar makes me think that we have a young, strong patient who knows (and I mean literally knows) that you and others are right there with him with an expectation for him to pull through. The hospital staff sounds great and just keeping talking, reading and touching him as much as you can. Let me know what I can do, we're just down the road. Make sure you and your wife take breaks,eat, sleep and get outside every once in a while. Remember that God takes all requests, so I think I'm going to pray for " a complete and thorough recovery" for Eric. Hang in there. Jeff DiMarco (559) 779-6919

On behalf of the men and women of the Richmond Police department, we offer both the Blount and Kievernagel family our thoughts and prayers. To the men and women who work at the Sacramento Sheriffs department, our deepest sympathies are extented to you all.
I personally knew Joe and was deepley saddened to hear of the accident. Our paths crossed some years ago when he was kind enough to help me gather statistical information regarding airborne law enforcement. I had the opportunity to fly-along with him a few times and talk with him about his love of flying and policing. Ironic as it was, he told me about his good buddy who just recently got assigned to the air detail (Kevin).
I remember talking with him about how incredible it was that he got paid to fly. Witout a breath he so eagerly repiled, "I'd do it for free if they asked me to. It's incredible."
I tip my hat to you and Kevin for all that you have done to keep your fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement safer. The additional feeling of security an officer on the ground has when a air unit is up above is priceless. Your hard work and dedication has helped put criminals in jail and made the streets a lot more safe. Joe, you and Kevin are ture heros in every respect of the word.
I would also like to extend thoughts and prayers to Deputy Henriksen and his family at this time.
STAR 6, thank you for your service to the Sacramento community .

Thoughts and prayers to the families and the Department.
We are all praying for Eric's recovery
The work that law enforcement officers around the world are doing is an invaluable necessity in the times we live in, increasingly they are putting themselves in harms way to insure a safer way of life for the rest communities they faithfully serve. For their service and dedication I am always thankful. My heart goes out to the families of the three officers, and I pray for them and for the souls of the fallen, I pray for a speedy recovery for the injured officer. To the Sherrifs department I offer my support and prayers for continued safety and success in serving the community. Take care. Kind regards, Aidan Stewart.
My heart goes out to this family for its tragic loss. May they find some comfort from the time so well spent by Joe Jr. on this earth, giving of himself for others. For his unselfish gift to the rest of us, he now has his deserving reward with our Maker, albeit sooner than we would want.

My deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Joe Kievernagel and Kevin Blount for their tragic loss. My greatest hopes for a speedy and full recovery for Eric Henrikson.
These men accepted the risks of airborne law enforcement because to them the rewards of serving their community and backing up their fellow Officers far out weighed those risks.
When interviewed after the motorcade had passed her, a lady showing her respects along the route stated that their lives and sacrifice were “powerful and profound – that her death should be so valiant.” I can fine no better words than hers.
The following poem expresses to me what I think is in the hearts and minds of men and women who fly:
Impressions of a Pilot
Flight is freedom in its purest form,
To dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
To roll and glide, to wheel and spin,
To feel the joy that swells within;
To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
Then back to earth at the end of a day,
Released from the tensions which melted away.
Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain,
Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again;
For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know,
I was born to fly.

I want to thank the Sacramento Sheriff's Department for the outstanding support they've shown the families and friends affected by this horrible tragedy. As a friend of the Henrikson family, I am touched and overwhelmed by the support the department has provided Eric's family.
I don't think I've ever been prouder of the Sacramento community and the surrounding areas after seeing the overwhelming support throughout the past week and a half ... especially during the procession on Wednesday. I know all of the other local and surrounding law enforcement AND fire agencies have also gone above and beyond in their support of these deputies and their families.
I would like to send a sincere thank you to all of you who protect and serve our community. I appreciate each and every one of you.
My constant prayers are with Eric and his family, as well as the families of Kevin and Joseph.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
Rest in Peace, Men

TO JOE AND KEVIN'S FAMILIES, BOTH PRIVATE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT:
Let me begin with a confession. I may have the gift of gab, but at funerals I am totally tongue-tied. Funerals just paralyze me because I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing. And I'm not sure there are adequate words to express my feelings anyway.
I don't know what it's like to lose someone under the circumstances that you have. But whenever someone you love is gone, there is always an empty spot in our lives.
Sometimes there are just no words to say those things that are deepest in our hearts, but if caring and thoughts can help, they are with you there right now.
May all the warm and special memories you shared with your friend and loved one stay with you and bring you comfort throught the days ahead
My deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the fallen officers. And, my thanks to these officers and their families for their incredible service and dedication to the community. Their loss will be felt for a long time to come.

My thoughts and prayers are focused on the families and loved ones of Kevin, Joe, and Eric. Kevin and Joe will not be forgotten and always missed dearly.
Myself and a few other mourners went to the crash site yesterday. As we walked into the site, a downpour of rain fell upon us. We stood under a tree a few feet from the memorial cross and the rain suddenly stopped. There was a dark rain cloud over the site only for that short period of time. We had a toast and a prayer, knowing our brothers were looking down upon us.
We left the sacred crash site and walked up the hill to the overlook parking lot. I looked back down at the crash site and saw a beautiful rainbow coming out of the crashsite and beaming across the sky.
I know our brothers are safe and secure in the hands of God. They are now mearly waiting for us to join when our time is due.
Life is good and the afterlife is better.
The crash site is sacred ground and forever a part of our lives.
The brotherhood of the Sheriff's Department and all the local agencies is tremmendous. As sad as this life changing event has been, there has been a positive impact from the chain of events that have followed.
To Kevin I say, Thank you for your gracious heart and kind manner. Your smile and sense of humor are stuck with me forever. I smile and cry at the memories and thoughts.
My love to all!

Where do I begin...My husband flew in Star from 1985-1988. He truly loved flying and I was so proud of him. Like Laura, I would run outside whenever I heard a helicopter in the area in hopes of being able to wave at him as he flew over our house. I also had the opportunity to ride along during numerous patrol flights while Ken was flying.
I was hired as a dispatcher for SSD in 1989. Dispatching became a job that I truly enjoyed, though it could, at times, be very stressful. I happened to be dispatching the night that Star called in their Mayday. It was possibly the most frightening thing I have ever heard. I thank my years of experience, and All my co-workers in the comm center and patrol for helping get us all through a very tragic night. Joe and Kevin will be truly missed. Ken and I express our prayers to both their families and to a full recovery to Eric.

I did the video show for Joe & Kevin. I have been friends with Joe back when he started at the mainjail. Joe,Erik, Jim,Jon and I use to go out together and party a lot back then. It was a great time. I miss him so very much.
I saw Iris today and apologized that I haven't kept in contact with her over the years. I felt so bad. I use to see Joe often at AirOps but had not seen Iris in such a long time. I am so sorry for that. Joe and all of us use to hang out when he first met Iris and we all were very close. We all went our seperate ways in the Dept; we lost touch with each other and I am sadden by this. You never know in our line of work when your time is up. It can happen at anytime. We need to stay in touch with each other.
I can't express the grief that I feel. All of my friends know how I am and if any of the Kievernagel family ever needs anything at all I will make it happen if it is in my abililty. My heart goes out to Iris, who,Joe loved so much. His best friend was Kevin and no man was closer to him. I want to express that I was honored to be a part of their lives and to make this video for them. I have recieved so many calls and emails. I just did it for Joe especially because he was a friend and I knew Kevin also. It meant alot to me to remember them in this way.

My profound condolences to the immediate family and department. I am a retired California Police Officer and have always said that law enforcement is the largest fraternity in the World. The services in Sacramento yesterday confirmed this. We cannot choose when we die or how we die, but we can choose how we live. These officers obviously lived right and made a huge difference in the community. I am proud to be in their law enforcement fraternity.
God speed brothers, You have done your time. Rest well as we will all meet and greet at roll call again.

As a former law enforcement officer who was injured in the line of duty, every time I read about an officer injured or killed in the line of duty, my own experience is revisited. I am now privileged to serve as a community chaplain with Law Enforcement Chaplaincy of Sacramento and have had the privilege of working beside many caring and devoted officers in the greater Sacramento area. To the families who have lost loved ones, know that our prayers for you are eternal, as are the lives of your loved ones. And for Eric Henrickson, God will work a miracle in your life to His glory. Thank you to each and every officer who thanks the chaplains for being on scene, when the greater thanks goes to them for the job they do.
