May god comfort and guide all those affected by tragedy. Our dedicated officers continuously put the needs of the public before themselves without thinking twice. They are now home, and in a better place, but will be forever missed. There dedication and service is greatly appreciated. For the deputy in the hospital, our prayers are with him for a full recovery!

Working at McDonald's drive-thru, I heard about this tragedy nearly after it happened. With my family and co-workers, I want to send out our deepest condolences for the fallen heroes. May they rest in peace and may recovery be steadfast. Every night one more deputy comes through my drive-thru during the closing shift, and every night I wish them a safe night. You never know when a tragedy such as this will take place, and I like to send them off with a little prayer or angel, if you will, watching over them. To the families of those lost, may your hearts be eased. Some of you I know and some of you I have grown up with, such as Jeff Wallace. I hope to get to know many more of you and I wish you all well.

My heart goes out to the families of the fallen police officers. I know what it is like to suddenly loose a loved one, I lost my husband 5 years ago suddenly while he was at work. My heart also goes out to the police officer on life support still in the hospital. My prayers are with him that he will survive this tragedy that has happened. Everyone in the police department put their lives at risk every day to make Sacramento a safe place to live and when such a tragedy happens it hits all of us in some way. May God be with them always. My prayers are with the families through this tragic time.

Our sympathies to the families and friends of these fine officers. We had the opportunity to participate in a ride-along with one of the Star units in May of 2004. The entire air support crew displayed professionalism, courtesy and the utmost enthusiasm for their work. We learned a great deal from these servants in the sky and we will be forever grateful for all their hard work and dedication in keeping the Sacramento region a safe place for us all! Go with God!

The following is for the grieving friends and family...
HIGH FLIGHT
By John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-slivered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high, untrespassed sancity of space, put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

DEATH IS NOTHING AT ALL...I have only slipped away into the next room..I am I, and you are you...Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Put no difference into your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the ghost of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner...All is well. - Henry Scott Holland (Oxford Professor of Divinity)
