In The Line Of Duty
To Our Law Enforcement Family:
Please join with us in remembering our fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty during the month of June.
June 3, 1955, William L. Littlejohn was rushing a suicide victim to the hospital in his patrol car when it was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver. Two days later Deputy William Littlejohn died of the injuries he received during the collision. Deputy Littlejohn is buried at the Sylvan Cemetery on Greenback Lane.
June 7, 1968, Deputy Kenneth Royal was shot to death by an armed suspect following an armed robbery in South Sacramento. Deputy Royal is buried at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park on Greenback Lane.
June 13, 1976, Deputy Stewart Baird was killed by an armed suspect during a robbery of a business on Auburn Boulevard. He attempted to apprehend the suspect as he was fleeing from the building. Deputy Baird is buried at Mount Vernon Memorial Park on Greenback Lane.
The Board of Directors of the Bruce Verhoeven Foundation will place floral remembrances at each grave site during the month to honor our fallen officers. Also, a remembrance notice will be placed in the Sacramento Bee to remind all of our citizens of the sacrifice each of these brave men gave to this community,
Be careful out there.
