Remembrance of Deputy Jeff Mitchell

Each time we send out a remembrance of the death of one of our officers who was killed in the line of duty, we hope and pray that we will not have to add new names to this list that is already to long.

But, sadly today we must do just that.  It has been one year since the violent death of Deputy Jeff Mitchell.  On Friday, October 27, 2006, Jeff was patrolling in a rural area of Sacramento County on Meiss Road.  It was 3:30 in the morning when Dispatch became concerned when they could not reach Deputy Mitchell by radio.  It was then that the horror of what took place on that dark and lonely road was realized.

What we have pieced together is that Deputy Mitchell made a stop of a vehicle and then became involved in a violent struggle for his life.  He was shot and killed and left lying in the roadway.  To this day, after hundreds of hours of investigation, the murder of Deputy Mitchell remains unsolved.

As you remember Jeff today, please also remember his family and his friends.  But most of all we should collectively send out our thoughts and prayers that some piece of evidence or some person will finally come forward and give us the information that will lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.

The Bruce Verhoeven Foundation will deliver a floral arrangement to the memorial site on Meiss Road to pay tribute to the memory of Deputy Mitchell; his life and the bravery he surely displayed in the early morning hours of
October 27, 2006.

Stay safe out there.
