Segment On ABC About Surge in Officer Deaths in 2007
2007 is turning out to be one of the deadliest years in decades for our law enforcement professionals. Why are so many law enforcement officers being killed in the line of duty?
Tonight, Monday, November 26, ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson will begin a two-part series that takes an in-depth look at the growing dangers faced by law enforcement officers and what’s being done in response. ABC News Senior Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas reports tonight on the disturbing surge in violence against our law officers. On Tuesday, Correspondent Jeffrey Kofman looks at how some law enforcement agencies are arming-up to protect themselves and their communities from the threat of heavily armed criminals. I think you will find this of interest.
The series is anchored by data and analysis provided by the NLEOMF. The series begins Monday on ABC’s World News with Charles Gibson, which airs in the DC area at 6:30 pm on WJLA-TV (Channel 7) and is repeated at 9 pm on News Channel 8. Check your local listing for time and channel.

"Hello,
I heard of this a while ago and thought it is so true! Many regular people don't realize the work police do and that the job is so dangerous, also no matter where law officers goes, they could be a target of someones aggression or even that of just abuse period.
One person I know ( I won't say from where!) talks the police down all the time.I can't stand it when this person does that. I know many a police officer and I have never seen anything that makes them look bad or not doing the job right, I how-ever see them in situations that are dangerous and at everyones whims when they think they did something wrong. Police have the type of work that puts them in the highlight for false accusations, even though no body is perfect... most police do the job they where hired for and do thier work very accurately.
I had a brother who did police work and told me:Quote{Police work: It is not a job for someone who feels they are a Super Hero, A God or if they think they are invisible, because that will get you killed real fast, it's the type of job that keeps you on your toes and watching every step you take and You have to be in a different mind when thinking while working!}
He told me some interesting stories that made me just drop my jaw. Anyway, this world is getting tougher and the bad guys are getting smarter, so with that many lives can be killed also..It's like a different type of war that never ends for police!
I thank all of our law officer's and wish them well and always saftey while on duty and that includes their Canine Police dogs also.
So with that I say:Thank you and God Bless you all for the work you do everyday. Oh yes! "Happy Holidays" for the last of the year of 2007. "
