SSD K9 Officers take awards at Stockton Trial
Sacramento Sheriff K9 Officers received awards for their performance in the Stockton Police K9 trial competition. The K9 trials are sanctioned by the Western States Police Canine Association.
Handler Joel Baugh and his K9 partner Kuma took FIRST PLACE in the area search competition. A decoy was hidden in one of three vehicles that were parked in an open field. The judges take into consideration how quick the decoy is found and the strength of the alert from the K9 when making their decision.
Handler Steve LeCouve and his K9 partner Dantes took fourth place in obedience and third place for the overall competition. The obedience phase of the competition included a series of turns with the K9 at a heel, it also included sits, downs, and tactical obedience.
Handler Rick Kemp took fourth place overall in the competition that consisted of 27 handler/K9 teams from around the state.
