SSDK9 Off To A Winning 2008 K9 Trials Season
The first Western States Police Canine Association K9 trials of 2008 was hosted by the Stockton Police Department April 6th and 7th at Weber Point in Downtown Stockton.
SSD K9 handlers Steve LeCouve and his canine partner Dantes along with Rick Kemp and his canine partner Clint participated in the trials. For those who are unaware what a canine trial consists of it is a test of the canine’s abilities in the areas of Suspect Area Search, Obstacles, Obedience and Protection Work. Six judges evaluate and score the canine team as they participate in each of the events. At the end of the competition the scores are totaled and awards are given to the top five competitors in each event including overall.
There were 27 canine teams competing in the Stockton Trials. SSD K9 had a good showing and took several trophies. Steve LeCouve and Dantes received first place in Area Search, first place in Obstacles and first place in Obedience.
Rick Kemp and Clint received a 5th place overall and LeCouve and
Kemp were the top canine team, the team with the most combined points and won the Chiefs Trophy.
