Tactics Class Hosted By SSD K9

The Sacramento Sheriff K9 Association hosted its first class, “Suspect Tactics and Perimeter Containment”, taught by Jack Schonley of the Los Angeles Police Department. Over 300 law enforcement officers attended and learned the latest trends in suspect tactics, how to contain fleeing suspects, and how to do it safely.

The SSD K9 Association sponsored all Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department employees who attended the 8 hour classroom presentation. This class would not have been possible without the association itself and the generous support we have received from the community and members of the department who have signed up to the employee donation campaign.

As you can see by the maximum capacity crowd that law enforcement officers in this region and abroad are committed to making themselves better by attending, by choice, some of the best training available. This class will directy benefit the community with better trained cops on the street. Many of the law enforcement officers paid their own way out of their own pocket to better themselves.

Special thanks to everyone that attended and we are planning to bring the class back in the near future for all those who could not make it.

"I thought the class was very informative and pertinent to what we patrol duties encounter when suspects flee from us. Dayshift duties in district 6 had the opportunity to use the information provided in the class on a fleeing subject that doubled back on us and ran right back into our perimeter. Due to the information we learned the subject was quickly captured and is looking at a lot of time in prison. I would definitely like to attend the class again sometime in the future. Good job putting the class together."

"One of the best and informative training classes I have attended. It should be required training for all patrol deputies. Thanks to the K9 detail for putting it on."

"Good class. Good videos and relation/perspective on officer safety and suspect tactics in relation to officer involved shootings, including the need for LARGE perimeters which can be reduced later rather than trying to expand them after the fact. Very knowledgeable instructor. Should be included in AOT."

"Thank you for providing such an excellent class, fast paced, a lot of useful information! I was able to put it to use the following day and incorporate the TFO info with the K9 info, and apply it to what I was doing. It would be great if this could be incorporated into AOT. Nice to have something I can really use. Thanks!!!!"

"This was a superb class. It should be mandatory for academys. I've never seen a class of 30 officers pay that close attention, much less 300"

"Excellent job done by all! It's about time we had some relevant, real-world, applicable training that brings our tactics into the 21st century. This training + trainings like Round-Hill might actually help us compete w/the criminals. Keep up the good work."

"As mentioned before, this was an outstanding class which should be made available to all new patrol deputies and supervisors. Futhermore, it also would be a great addition to the AOT currculum. Way to take the lead K9 Team!"

"This was an excellent class! So much so that I believe some form of it should be required for everyone just before they begin working patrol. As one of the students mentioned during the class, it should also be required for patrol supervisors."
