TWO SHERIFF’S DISPATCHERS TO BE RECOGNIZED
FAYE THOMAS AND DENISE LUMLEY WILL BE HONORED DURING NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK
Congress has designated the week of April 8 through April 14, 2007 National Public Safety Telecommunicators week. On April 14, 2007 the Organization of Public Safety Telecommunicators (OPST) will hold its 11th annual Dispatcher Appreciation Banquet. The OPST is an organization composed of answering points for several public agencies in and around Sacramento County. At this year’s banquet, two Sheriff’s department employees will be recognized: Faye Thomas will be named 911 Call Dispatcher of the Year and Denise Lumley will be named Dispatcher of the Year. Thomas has worked for the Sheriff’s department, as a 911 Call Dispatcher, for over four years and is fluent in both Spanish and Arabic. Lumley has been a Sheriff’s Dispatcher for six years and has distinguished herself as a leader and role model amongst her peers.
Public safety communicators daily serve the public in countless ways without due recognition by those whom they serve. The Sheriff’s department dispatchers, on an average, receive nearly 500,000 emergency and non-emergency phone calls per year.
