| Urban Tactical Training K9 School August 29 through the 31st four members of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Canine Detail attended the “Urban Tactical Training” course in the city of Downey, Los Angeles County, California. Officers from the Gardena Police Department hosted the course. This was an intense demanding course both for the canines as well as the handlers. There were twenty canine teams from various departments such as, Los Angeles Air Port Police, Los Angeles County Police Department, Corona Police Department, Simi Valley Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, San Leandro Police Department and the Getty Museum. The canine teams were challenged in the areas of high-risk vehicle stops, building searches and area searches. The training provided the handlers with the knowledge, comprehension, application and critical thinking to overcome these challenges. The Urban Tactical Training was developed because of a critical need to properly train Officers and Canine Handlers in mastering techniques for real life survival situations. |
