Sacramento Sheriff's Helicopter Pictures

This past spring on a blustery, rainy day at Mather Field for a static aircraft display is where I met Kevin Blount.

Being a fan of the Aero Bureau and seeing STAR, I made a beeline over to the craft. I was looking over STAR when I heard a voice calling me over to me to get under the pop up shelter and wait for the rain to subside.

We introduced ourselves to each other and it was there that I found out many things about Kevin - his link to Metro Fire (his father - a retiree from Metro), the people he knew in the district, being a deputy & his love of flying in STAR.

That is where he came alive and you could really see the spark in his eyes; "Life could not get any better than this!" he proudly proclaimed. He gave me information about the helicopter and the equipment and boy did he know his stuff.

This among a host of other tidbits of information (we were practically neighbors). Such as, "How I could get a ride-a-long on STAR" and being volunteer for the Sheriff's Department, asking if they needed any volunteer assistance at the hanger.

This talk going on for around a half an hour or so, until my brother and sister-in-law came back over, soaking wet in their raingear, asking if we could leave.

I thanked Kevin for his time and being able to get to know him, at least a little bit, and said to him, "When you fly over my apartment, I will give you a wave or a blue light as a Hello".

He wished me luck with my goals at Metro Fire, the fire service, SSD's Reserve Officer Modular Academy and participating in Law Enforcement.

With that short time I spent speaking with Kevin, I can surely see why he has so many friends and will definitely be missed, but never forgotten.
