
Officer Randy Paulson and his K-9 partner, Robby. Officer Paulson and his partner Robby work for the Pleasanton Police Department. Officer Paulson began his career with the Pleasanton Police Department in 1994. Officer Paulson worked as a Reserve Police Officer for one year before being hired full-time. Officer Paulson has worked in the following special assignments; Bicycle patrol, Traffic Unit (Motors), Detectives, S.W.A.T. and K-9.
Robby is a 4 year old German Shepherd imported from a small town in East Germany. Robby began his career with the Pleasanton Police Department in 2003. Robby is the City of Pleasanton’s first Explosives Detection Dog. Officer Paulson and Robby assisted the FBI and ATF with the Shaklee bombing in Pleasanton, Ca. in 2003. Officer Paulson and Robby have also worked with the Secret Service Detail and performed VIP protection for Foreign Presidents, California Governors’ Gray Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver and Congressman and Senators.
Officer Paulson and Robby also work patrol for the City of Pleasanton. Robby is a dual purpose dog trained in Explosives Detection and Patrol work. Some of his skills include; tracking, apprehensions, handler protection, obedience, building and area searches, and locating any evidence/articles. Robby is trained to alert on fourteen different explosive odors. Robby certifies annually for both his explosives detection and patrol work.
In 2004 Robby successfully conducted a backtrack of an attempted murder suspect, who was apprehended by patrol officers, but fled the scene of the crime. Robby conducted a backtrack for one mile to the scene of the crime and alerted on a bush where the weapon used in the crime was recovered. Officer Paulson and Robby work with the Department’s S.W.A.T. Team to assist with tactical high risk situations.
Officer Paulson and Robby enjoy performing K-9 demonstrations at various schools. Officer Paulson and Robby also teach at the Pleasanton Police Department’s Citizen Academy, Teen Academy and Post Explorer Program. Officer Paulson and Robby live together and work together, sharing a special bond. When off-duty, both Officer Paulson and Robby enjoy spending time with their family and friends at home.

I apologize for my dog jumping on your car the other day at the Carr America parking lot. I honeslty did not see the canine warning on your car. I visited the Pleasanton Police Deaprtment web site so I may learn more about you and Robby. I learned Robby and you are roll models for our community. A team we can all be proud off.
