Hi, I am Sergeant Mike Butler and my K9 partner is Sammy.  Thank you for visiting our web-site!  The web-site was created as a “window” to the community by the K9 handlers themselves.  Its purpose is to educate and provide information to people like you who have an interest in working dogs and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department K9 Detail.

Each handler is selected after a rigorous, competitive examination process.  Their dedication and pride in the K9 field and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is unequalled and unquestioned.  You will not find finer people, anywhere- I encourage you to take the time to get to know each Handler and K9 partner, through their personal biographies.

Lastly, Sammy and I.  I am coming up on eighteen years with the Sheriff’s Department.  I began as a K9 handler in 1999 and was lucky enough to return to the unit as one of two Sergeant K9 handlers.  Sammy is a two and a half year old Belgian Malinois.  I enjoy Sammy’s company immensely, he is always eager to do whatever I ask of him.  When I ask him to enter an area ahead of me and other officers so we can stay safe, or go on a run with me, he is always in favor of doing it.  Sammy is great to have around the house.  His favorite activities at home are swimming in the pool without permission and chewing up expensive shoes.

Thanks again for your interest and support.  We are appreciative!
