I have been with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department since 1995. In the last ten years I have worked assignments in the jail, in patrol, with the high impact patrol team, and now the K9 unit. Being a part of the K9 unit was always a goal of mine even before I was hired as a Deputy Sheriff.
I was selected to the K9 unit in March of 2001, and a short time later was teamed up with a very energetic and handsome German shepherd named Jimmy. Jimmy and I worked the graveyard shift for four years together until he was injured during training in June of 2005. Jimmy had to retire but the great thing is he is not in any pain and lives on a large parcel of land with a fellow deputy in the country.
In November of 2005 I picked up my new K9 partner Jesse at The Sacramento Airport. He was shipped out in a dog crate from Indiana after just arriving from Holland! He spent a lot of time on an airplane that week. Jesse was born May 11, 2004 in Holland and weighs 61 pounds. He is a Belgian Malinois with lots of energy. My 5 year old twin daughters named him Jesse and I thought that was a perfect name for him.
Jesse certified as a patrol K9 on December 30, 2005. On our first shift back New Years night Jesse found his 1st bad guy. The suspect was a car burglar hiding underneath a U-Haul truck. Good Boy!
Jesse has quickly become a part of our family. He makes friends easily and especially if you are holding a ball in your hand.
