I was sworn in as Deputy Sheriff in 1995, although I had been a civilian employee with the department for several years. I started my career at the Main Jail and then transferred to patrol services. I then began an assignment with the Regional Transit Police. In this assignment I was teamed up with Sacramento Police Officers and worked to ensure the safety of public transportation sites and vehicles across the county. I was then lucky enough to become a school resource officer where I was assigned to Rio Americano High School. I had the opportunity to work with and become a mentor for young adults.
After this assignment I was selected as an instructor at the Sheriff’s Training Academy. This was a very rewarding job and I had the chance to help influence new deputies. From the Academy I was promoted to Sergeant and after working the Main Jail was selected as a supervisor for the K9 Detail. This was a career goal of mine and I have enjoyed every minute.
Upon arriving I was teamed up with my K9 partner Grek. Grek is German Shepherd that was born in the Czechoslovakian Republic. He was selected by a trainer as a puppy and taken to Holland, where he was then sent to the US. Grek is 78-pounds and loves to be a police dog. He lives with my me and my family. We also have two Labrador Retrievers, and Grek has taken on the role of their big brother. Grek loves to chase his ball and if there is water nearby he enjoys swimming. When he is on the street Grek is all business and loves to find bad guys, but at home he just wants to be a puppy.
