Australian man attempts to bite K-9, winds up on receiving end of a bite

A 31-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty, among other offences, after he allegedly attempted to bite a police dog while he was being arrested last night.

Police were called to Kelly St, Berkeley in the Illawarra region about 11pm after reports of a personal violence incident. After the 31-year-old was arrested and placed into a caged police truck he allegedly kicked out the door, damaging the hinges.

While officers transferred him to another vehicle, the man allegedly attacked a police dog by attempting to bite it, only for the dog to turn around and bite him on his right arm.

The man was treated by paramedics at Lake Illawarra Police Station before being taken to Shellharbour Hospital where he refused medical treatment.

He was returned to the police station where he was charged damaging property, animal cruelty, resisting police, possession of a prescribed restricted substance and contravening a personal AVO.

Eventually he returned to hospital where he received several stitches to his arm.

He has been refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court.
