On the morning of August 23rd 2009 the Sacramento Sheriff’s K9 Association is proud to host the First Annual 5k/10k for K9 Run/Walk. For those who would like to include their four legged friends we are also offering a one mile walk with your dog along with a kid’s race.

This year’s event will be a fundraiser to raise money to cover medical bills for many of our retired K9 partners. 

The SSDK9 Association is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to provide our faithful partners with any medical treatment needed during their retirement years. SSDK9 association also is able to honor our K9 partners by burying them in the garden of valor when they pass on. Without the support and donations from the public, this would become much more difficult. This year’s event will be named the 5 & 10k for Kaleo. Kaleo was recently retired due to cancer, and due to unforeseen medical expenses that the county could not cover. Kaleo has had surgery to remove the cancer, but still needs radiation treatment to keep it from coming back. After treatment Kaleo should be able to enjoy many years at home with his handler and family.

The run will start at the Sheriff’s Department Training Facility located at 1000 River Walk Way and then head out onto the American River Parkway. So put on your running/walking shoes and come join us for a fun morning of competition, and a fun walk along the beautiful American River Parkway. After the run several of the Sheriff’s K9 dogs will be on hand to meet the public, and will treat you to a demonstration of their abilities. Registrants will also receive an event T-Shirt and kids will get ribbons. We look forward to seeing you all. Race day registration will be available with an additional fee of 5.00, so register early.
