K98 Deputy Steve Murphy - K9 Myke
E-mail -
I have over twelve years experience with the Sheriff’s Department. I started as a Volunteer Reserve Deputy and rode patrol, participated in various sting operations and I was one of the original members of the Sheriff’s Bicycle Patrol Detail. After graduating from the Public Safety Centers Basic Academy, I worked a variety of job assignments including Corrections, Transportation Officer, Patrol Officer and Patrol Training Officer for North Field Services and North Central Division.
Prior to coming over to the Sheriff’s Canine detail, I spent 4 ½ years with the Sheriff’s Air Support Bureau. Besides being a Tactical Flight Officer/Observer for airborne patrol, I was also a training officer and crew chief/EMT for special operations and helicopter rappelling. My duties with Air Operations put me in a close working relationship with members of the canine detail. I left Air Operations when I was selected to join the Sheriff’s Canine Detail in October of 2004. Now I patrol on the streets instead of above them as K9-8.
My K9 partner Myke (pronounced Mikey) has been with me since October of 2004. His full name is Myke Vom Haus Valkenplatz and he was born on May 16th, 2002. Myke is a 79 pound male German Shepard. He was born in Poland and we were told that Myke use to live with an owner that ended up going to prison for a crime. Myke certified as a police dog is December of 2004. Myke is trained to catch bad guys, search for evidence, and locate missing people. We are currently assigned to the Graveyard shift and have had several criminal apprehensions since certifying. Myke is a very mellow dog at home until he sneaks a peak at me getting my equipment ready for work. He then becomes extremely exited and will not stop whining until we get into the car. At home, Myke enjoys spending time with the family, going on walks and playing with our other German Shepard, Eich. Eich is the offspring of Agbar, who was one of the retired members of the canine detail. Agbar recently passed away and he will be missed by all.
