I was hired by the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department in 1999. Since joining the department I have had the opportunity to work at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, Patrol, Problem Oriented Policing, Regional Transit and Narcotics. In July of 2010, I fortunate to be chosen to be a canine handler. I was teamed with a three year old Belgian Malinios named Drago.
Drago and I hit it off immediately and we both dove head first into our training. During our training I quickly found that it was often Drago teaching me rather than the other way around. On our first night in patrol as a team we were involved in a pursuit and Drago apprehended the suspect when he fled from the car.
Drago lives at home with my wife and I and is a member of the family. He loves playing in the back yard with my two other German Sheppard Dogs and one of his favorite activities is rolling in the grass. He starts every work day by attending briefings with me and making sure that all of the other deputies in the room pet him at least once.
